About

Welcome to Bitesized Life, the helpful support for blood cancer!

This journey (and blog) began in early 2015 when I was diagnosed with aggressive Non-Hogkins lymphoma. In a frenzied whirlwind of despair, tears and fear, I was started on chemotherapy immediately after my diagnosis. However, it didn’t take too long for me to take control again. I paged through dozens of medical studies looking for answers and natural ways to support my healing, and the most important detail was: NUTRITION.

Magazines and science columns are always buzzing with the latest superfood news, the focus often on slimming down our ever-expanding waistlines. But, in the case of a cancer patient, throwing out all the junk isn’t just for looking good. It is extremely important. Our very lives depend upon it!

Good nutrition is the key to the good fight. After all, with all the drugs running through our veins, the awful side effects from chemotherapy and radiation, our bodies need tender loving care and support. And as they lose vital vitamins and minerals trying to heal, it becomes our duty, too, to love ourselves with good-for-you, helpful tactics.

If you look online, there is a plethora of “anti-chemo” websites with many, many alternative therapies. Around 60% of cancer patients use alternative therapies nowadays, either alone or in conjunction with doctor-recommended treatments. Yet, only those people afflicted with slower-growing cancers or solid tumors can really chance not doing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. And, in the case of blood cancers–leukemia and lymphoma–our bodies will likely destroy ourselves before any “slow and natural” therapies can reverse the situation. So what do we do?

My aim is post real help for people like myself. Not everyone will avoid conventional therapies. But place your trust wisely; being diagnosed with cancer does not mean you should be passive. The doctors will help you decide on your best course for medicine-related decisions, but you will only benefit from taking an active position regarding your health and life.

How do you prepare for chemo?
What questions should you ask the doctor?
What to do when the worst has arrived?
And how can your partner, parent, and loved-ones support you?

This blog is my effort to corral all the data and firsthand knowledge out there. So please join me on my journey to take charge, beat that cancer, and come out on top!
